Gas or electric heat
Compare a kWh of fuel, not a promise about your rooms.
Gas at the cap: 7.97p/kWh. Electricity at the cap: 26.32p/kWh.
A kWh of gas costs less than a kWh of electricity on those published rates. A boiler does not turn every kWh of gas into a kWh of heat in the room, and a heat pump can deliver more heat than the electricity it uses. Those efficiencies are not assumed here. Ask the installer for a figure for your system.
Gas stays at one unit rate all day. Moving a gas hour does not save money. Electricity on Agile does change every half-hour.
GB average Direct Debit cap, 1 October to 31 December 2026: electricity 26.32p/kWh and 54.83p/day, gas 7.97p/kWh and 29.68p/day. This is the Great Britain average for Direct Debit. Your region’s standing charge and unit rate can differ. Ofgem publishes the regional tables. Ofgem. No VAT on electricity from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.
