Boiler flow temperature
Nesta’s research, not a saving this site has measured.
Nesta says about 26% of UK homes (about 7.5 million) could save about £57 a year by setting a suitable combi’s flow temperature to 60°C or below. Nesta says the same homes, doing six free tweaks together, could save about £220 a year. The £220 includes the £57. It is not an extra £220. Nesta, 2026.
- Flow temperature to 60°C or below, if the boiler is a suitable combi.
- Turn off hot-water pre-heat if the boiler has it.
- Radiator valves outside the living room a little cooler.
- Room thermostat from 20°C to 19°C if the house stays comfortable.
- Close curtains at night.
- A shorter heating season when the weather is mild.
If the boiler is already near 60°C, Nesta’s £57 does not apply again. Some homes take longer to warm up.
Safety. Only turn the flow-temperature dial as the boiler manual describes. Do not open the case. Do not adjust the gas valve. For anything else, use a Gas Safe registered engineer.
